2 stars, 2 flops as Tottenham draw Everton 0-0 in another sour performance
Tottenham Hotspur are having a nightmare start to the 2026/27 Premier League season, and it is now four straight games that Spurs are without a single goal. They managed to pick up another point this weekend against Everton, but they were unable to put one past the Toffees even with a very attacking XI selected by Roberto De Zerbi.
Here were the two biggest stars and two biggest flops from another disappointing 0-0 draw in the Premier League for the Lilywhites.
Star: CB Jan Paul van Hecke
New Dutch center back Jan Paul van Hecke has quietly been blossoming for Tottenham Hotspur since a rough opener at the Gtech Stadium against Brentford, and he produced his best performance of the season this weekend against Everton. Van Hecke completed more than 100 passes, almost never misplacing one while providing elite defense against an Everton attack that was even more stumped that Spurs own front line. At least one of the new signings if working out amazing thus far, and he is one of the few players proving Roberto De Zerbi right.
Flop: LW Omar Marmoush
Omar Marmoush started on the left wing this time as De Zerbi hinted at before the game in the press conference, but just as he was terrible last weekend in the 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest, he was just as prone to losing the ball and lacking in threat as Mathys Tel was on the left the previous two matches. Marmoush can be as exasperated as he wants with the refs or even his teammates, but his poor performances are down to him.
Star: RW Savio
Savio has caught some flack from fans for not providing a scoring threat and for waning influence in the game, but when he was starting on the right wing, the young Brazilian international was explosive and dynamic. His four key passes and four dribbles completed were the only threat for Spurs on Saturday afternoon, and he opened up a lot of space for the other forwards, which only underscores how terrible the rest of the attack was.
Flop: ST Dominic Solanke
No player on Tottenham was as terrible as Dominic Solanke. This was his big chance to make a statement to everyone after the Richarlison saga and show Roberto De Zerbi made the right decision to back him as a starter. But instead, Solanke was as bad as he was all of last season. He created nothing, never came close to scoring, beat nobody on the ball, and turned possession over with six unforced errors.
