Gameweek 2 gave us goals, chaos, new records and a few stats hiding underneath the scorelines. Here are 10 you may have missed.
1. Gibbs-White is outscoring everyone
Morgan Gibbs-White is quietly making headlines. The Nottingham Forest midfielder now has 13 Premier League goals in 2026, more than any other player in the competition this calendar year. Even Erling Haaland is behind him on 10. Let’s remind you that he is a midfielder…
2. Saka’s number 7 shining on
Bukayo Saka’s latest goal took him to 62 Premier League goals, putting him level with David Beckham and former Arsenal favourite Robert Pires, who both donned the iconic number 7.
Still only 24, Saka is already climbing some serious lists.
3. Arsenal keep starting away from home perfectly
Arsenal have now won their first away league game in five straight seasons. Even better, they have kept a clean sheet in every single one.
Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Manchester United and Villa again have all been part of the run.
4. The Gunners also finally broke the Villa Park curse
For three straight seasons, the reigning Premier League champions had gone to Villa Park and lost. Arsenal ended that trend with their 1-0 win. Not flashy, but exactly the kind of result champions need to grind out.
5. João Pedro is already rewriting Chelsea’s No.9 story
Chelsea’s No.9 shirt has not exactly been kind to strikers in recent years. João Pedro, though, has started differently. He has two Premier League goals in two matches, already matching the combined league total of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Liam Delap while wearing the shirt. That curse might finally be cracking.
6. Call for CPR: Chelsea’s new front three are flying.
Cole Palmer, João Pedro and Morgan Rogers have already combined for nine goal contributions in Chelsea’s first two league matches. Seven goals, two wins and plenty of early chemistry. Chelsea’s attack looks very different this season.
7. Their defence is a different story
The fun stops at the other end. Chelsea have now gone 18 consecutive Premier League games without a clean sheet, their longest top-flight run without one in decades. They are scoring plenty. They are also giving opponents far too much hope.
8. Mainoo made a statement
Kobbie Mainoo finally got his first start of the season and made it count. Against Ipswich, he finished with 90% passing accuracy, 14 defensive contributions, 10 line-breaking passes and four successful dribbles. Hard to make a much stronger case for staying in the XI.
9. Carrick finally solved a strange problem
Michael Carrick had never beaten a promoted side as a Premier League manager before Gameweek 2. That changed with Manchester United’s win over Ipswich. Brilliantly against everyone else, he averages an impressive 2.47 points per game. One very strange stat finally crossed off the list.
10. João Pedro completed the strangest hat-trick imaginable
Goal. Assist. Own goal. João Pedro managed all three against Brighton, becoming the first Chelsea player in Premier League history to do so in the same match. Not quite the match ball hat-trick, but probably much harder to repeat.
