Manchester City finished the weekend perfect, Liverpool found some defensive steel and Tottenham finally remembered where the goal was.

1. City still untouchable at home to Sunderland
Manchester City’s 5-3 thriller extended their remarkable home record against Sunderland. City are now unbeaten in 15 Premier League home meetings with the Black Cats, winning 13 and drawing two. Sunderland have never won a Premier League game at the Etihad.
2. Liverpool shut the door
Liverpool’s 1-0 victory at Bournemouth brought up three consecutive Premier League clean sheets for the first time since September 2024, when they managed four in succession.
3. Maresca makes it five from five
Enzo Maresca became only the sixth manager in Premier League history to win his first five games in charge of a club. Carlo Ancelotti, Pep Guardiola, Craig Shakespeare, Maurizio Sarri and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are the others.
4. Nobody escapes Haaland
Erling Haaland’s 81st-minute goal against Sunderland completed the set. The Norwegian has now scored against all 25 clubs he has faced in the Premier League, having failed to find the net in his previous two meetings with the Black Cats.
5. Isak has already beaten last season
Alexander Isak needed just five games to surpass his entire Premier League haul from last season. The Liverpool striker has four goals in five league appearances, already eclipsing the three he scored in 14 games in 2025-26.
6. Raya has a long-range problem
Of the 160 Premier League goals David Raya has conceded, 33 have come from outside the penalty area, a whopping 20.6%. Among goalkeepers to concede at least 100 goals in the competition, only Hans Segers has a higher proportion at 22%.
7. 26 shots. Zero goals.
Fulham and Manchester United somehow combined for 26 shots in the first half of their 1-1 draw without scoring. That is the most shots ever recorded in a goalless first half of a Premier League match since Opta began collecting shot data in 2003-04.
8. After 66 Attempts, Spurs finally break their duck
Tottenham had gone through their opening four league matches without scoring before finally finding the net against Aston Villa in Gameweek 5. Their first Premier League goal of the campaign arrived after 66 attempts, ending a remarkable drought.
9. Chelsea’s expensive defence keeps leaking
Chelsea have spent €409million on defenders since the start of 2022-23, according to Transfermarkt data, more than any other club over that period. Yet after Brentford’s 3-0 win, the Blues have conceded 12 goals in their opening five Premier League matches this season.
10. Brobbey joins a very unwanted club
Brian Brobbey became just the sixth player in Premier League history to score a hat-trick and still lose the match. The Sunderland striker is the first to suffer that fate since Roque Santa Cruz scored three for Blackburn in a 5-3 defeat to Wigan in December 2007.
Brobbey also became only the fourth player to score a Premier League hat-trick against the team that started the day top of the table, joining Robbie Fowler, Dirk Kuyt and Romelu Lukaku.
