Ajax are on the verge of saying goodbye to Youri Regeer, Algemeen Dagblad reports. The Amsterdam club have agreed a loan move with Werder Bremen for the 23-year-old midfielder, while Maher Carrizo is also likely to leave the Johan Cruyff ArenA on a temporary basis.

Regeer's move to Bremen is expected to be finalised in the coming days. The loan deal also includes an option to buy, and there is some urgency because the German transfer window closes on Tuesday, a day earlier than in the Netherlands.

Earlier this calendar year, Regeer was still a regular starter for Ajax. The club spent a long time looking unsuccessfully for a successor to Jordan Henderson, and he got his chance as a holding midfielder under interim coaches Fred Grim and Oscar Garcia.

Under new head coach Míchel Sánchez, Regeer initially kept his place in that role. However, the midfielder failed to convince consistently, and Ajax finally brought in the reinforcement they wanted on Sunday when Sofyan Amrabat arrived.

That signing has now opened the door for Regeer to leave. He most likely made his final appearance for Ajax on Thursday against FC Sion, but illness forced him off and he is now also expected to miss Sunday's away game against Telstar.
