"Young player with determination" - Serhou Guirassy hails Fabio Silva after the duo linkup again
Borussia Dortmund forwards Serhou Guirassy and Fabio Siulva are enjoying a productive working relationship that was almost non-existent last season.
For the third game in a row, the pair combined for a goal. Guirassy latched onto a loose ball and made a vertical pass for Silva to chase in a quick counter and finish it.
After Hoffenheim and Villarreal, Paderborn were their latest victims.
Though Felix Nmecha struck a late brace to consolidate the victory, it was that fifth-minute goal the attacking duo engineered which set the stage for a comfortable win on Saturday.
Guirassy has always been the first choice to lead the line upfront but in their latest outing, Niko Kovac played both and it paid off handsomely.
After the game, the Guinean ace revealed that both are pushing each other to their limits as they work on building a fearsome strike partnership.
We have a very good relationship. Sometimes when I haven't been playing, I've given him advice, and when he isn't playing, he gives me advice. I understand that football's like this. One day I'm going to score, another day someone else's going to score. We might as well push each other to improve and let the team reap the rewards.
Together, Guirassy (4) and Silva (4) have accounted for 47% of Dortmund's goals (17) in all competitions right now as the pair are on a rich vein of form.
He further stated that Silva's own form makes it easier for him to sustain his.
Of course. If you feel more comfortable with that person, it's even easier. Fabio and I have a very good relationship, so it's good.
Following his €22.5 million transfer from Wolves last summer, Silva bagged just three goals in all competitions in the 2025-26 season. He's already bagged more in the new campaign with four.
It reflects a massive upturn in form for the Portuguese, who was labeled an expensive flop in the summer but has now turned fortunes around by unlocking his true potential.
Guirassy feels he's different from the other forwards in the squad and brings a new style into Dortmund's plays:
He's a young player with a lot of energy and determination, and that's good for us. When you look at the players we have, he's different from Kosta [Karetsas], different from me, Samuele [Inácio] or Carney [Chukwuemeka]. It's good to have another style of player - it helps the team.
