Troy Parrott’s move away from AZ Alkmaar is edging closer, and Tottenham stand to collect around €6 million from a sell-on clause written into his 2024 departure.

According to Joe.ie, citing a report from Balls.ie, West Ham have emerged as surprise favourites to sign the Ireland striker, having already seen an €18 million bid rejected by AZ. The Hammers are expected to return with an improved offer before the window closes, with AZ said to want around €30 million to sanction any sale.

Why Spurs stand to profit

Parrott joined Tottenham’s academy at 15 and spent almost a decade on the books before being sold to AZ in 2024 for a fee worth around €8 million. Spurs retained a 20 per cent sell-on clause as part of that deal, meaning a €30 million sale would hand them roughly €6 million (£5.1 million) on top of the original fee – a return on a player who made only a handful of senior appearances in north London.

The eventual fee would determine the value of Tottenham’s windfall. With AZ reportedly seeking around €30 million, a deal at that level would trigger the estimated €6 million payment under the reported sell-on clause.

Competition and what’s next

West Ham’s improved bid is not the only factor in the situation. Parrott has also been linked with Ajax, Real Betis, Porto and RB Leipzig in recent months, while AZ’s reported €30 million valuation remains central to any potential sale. The Balls.ie report suggests the saga is expected to be resolved before the end of the month.
