Watch: Modric shines and becomes Croatia’s oldest goalscorer with nice strike

Luka Modric’s immortality hardly needs any more proof, yet it keeps arriving. Last night, the AC Milan midfielder recorded another bit of history.

A player like Modric is rare, just in terms of quality. Few midfielders have dictated the game as well before; few will be able to do it again in the future. However, that’s not Modric and Milan may know that better than anyone.

What appeals so much about Modric is not his brain, but something else inside him: his heart.

The Croatian is still playing week in, week out at 41 years old and rarely looks like he skips a beat. Of course, there may be moments when he isn’t as sharp, but this is where Ruben Amorim will work to get the best from him.

Last night he made his 203rd appearance for Croatia – a number which feels ludicrous to reach – and he marked it by becoming the country’s oldest ever goalscorer and it was a beauty of a goal, too. Again, his immortality didn’t need proving, but it was.
