AC Milan loanee Santiago Gimenez has opened his account for Porto, converting a penalty in the 4-1 win against Casa Pia yesterday.

It has been two weeks since Milan agreed to send Gimenez on loan to Porto. Last weekend, he made his debut for the Portuguese and came close to bagging his first goal. Knowing that close doesn’t really mean anything, the Mexican made sure to open his account this weekend.

He was subbed on in the 62nd minute against the rock-bottom side Casa Pia, replacing the former Milan man Andre Silva, and found the back of the net in the dying minutes. It came from the spot, and it wasn’t the best of penalties, but a goal is a goal.

The terms of the loan stipulate that Porto have an option to buy Gimenez next summer, but that option will turn into an obligation if certain conditions are met. The exact conditions have not been revealed, but it’s possible that the number of appearances and goals could play a part.

In other words, Milan are watching on with great interest, hoping that the Mexican will continue on this path so that they can bank some cash in the summer.
