Video: Regragui's appearance alongside the Emir of Qatar raises questions

Speculation with no confirmation

Walid Regragui, the former coach of the Moroccan national team, appeared alongside Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar, in Paris. The scene sparked a wave of questions about the next step in the Moroccan coach's managerial career.

A video clip doing the rounds on social media showed Regragui with the Emir of Qatar inside a Paris café. Followers took notice, not least because the Moroccan coach is currently without a job.

Fans and users quickly linked the appearance to the possibility of Regragui taking on a role in Qatar, whether leading the national team or stepping into a fresh technical position. Neither side has confirmed the theory.

Qatar, meanwhile, find themselves at a crossroads. They failed to escape the group stage at both the 2022 and 2026 World Cups, and that record may push officials to weigh up new options for a technical staff led by the Spaniard Julen Lopetegui.

Even so, nothing official ties the Paris meeting to negotiations or a joint sporting project. It may have been a private meeting with no bearing on Regragui's professional future. Lopetegui's contract with the Qatar national team runs until February 2027.
