Curtis Jones and Josep Martinez committed avoidable howlers as Inter gifted Real Madrid two early goals in their Champions League clash. ‘Jones is very timid and predictable.’

It kicked off at the Bernabeu in Madrid at 20.00 UK time (21.00 CEST).

The Nerazzurri had started so strong on Spanish soil, testing Thibaut Courtois several times and dominating possession, but were punished at the first opportunity.

Inter shoot themselves in the foot

Jones was making his first start for the club since the summer transfer from Liverpool, and his misplaced pass was awkward for Yann Bisseck to get clear.

Real Madrid took full advantage, as ex-Milan midfielder Brahim Diaz threaded through for Kylian Mbappé to squirm the finish under Martinez.

“Jones is very timid and always makes the most predictable pass,” said Sky Sport Italia pundit Beppe Bergomi.

“He passes the ball and then stops, in my view he still doesn’t know where he’s meant to move.”

The second goal was a downright howler for Inter, as Josep Martinez tried to dribble Federico Valverde in his six-yard box, but was a bit too over-ambitious, allowing a prod into the empty net.
