Video: he left in tears: Trezeguet's injury raises concern ahead of Egypt's camp
Early shock: anticipation in the Egypt national team
Al-Riyadh suffered a painful blow on Monday evening when their Egyptian star Mahmoud Hassan "Trezeguet" limped out of the goalless draw with Al-Khaleej in the fifth round of the Saudi Roshn Pro League.
The winger lasted just 14 minutes. A crunching challenge from Al-Khaleej's Boubacar Kouyate left him on the turf for two minutes before the medical staff called for the substitution.
Trezeguet walked off in tears, his face etched with pain from the severity of the injury, as Al-Riyadh's technical staff moved to console him.
Worrying signs before the injury against Al-Khaleej
A hamstring injury kept Trezeguet out of his side's previous fixture, a 5-0 hammering by Al-Ahli in the fifth round of the Saudi Roshn Pro League.
He picked up another injury today in the opening stages of the match. That has thrown his availability for the Gulf fixture into doubt.
Anticipation in Egypt's camp
Trézéguet will undergo medical examinations and X-rays over the coming hours to determine the exact nature of the injury, its severity and how long he faces on the sidelines.
The timing could hardly be worse. Trézéguet was expected to earn a call-up to Egypt's upcoming camp for the fixtures against Angola and South Sudan on 25 and 29 September, in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
This was his sixth appearance for Al-Riyadh this season across the league and the King's Cup. He scored once in the Saudi league and provided two assists, one in the league and the other in the cup.
The result lifted Al-Riyadh to 5 points in twelfth place, while Al-Khaleej moved onto four points in thirteenth in the Saudi Roshn Pro League table.
Next up for Al-Riyadh are Al-Kholood on Sunday.
