Valentijn Driessen cannot understand Ajax's transfer policy. According to the journalist, the Amsterdam club should have signed a number six long ago. The players brought in for big money this summer, he says, "cannot play at all".

Right now, Ajax are still looking for a defensive midfielder. "That is of course unbelievable as well," Driessen says on Vandaag Inside. "Henderson was the ideal profile. He has been gone for more than a year now, and in three transfer windows you still have not signed a number six. A defensive midfielder, how simple can it be?"

Driessen then offers a suggestion of his own: Darko Nejasmic of NEC. "Go and get that lad! He is a good player. You can get him. But now you are a week away from the end of the transfer window, and you still have to go and get someone."

Ajax have already brought in Marc ter Stegen (loan), Julian Brandt (free transfer), Daley Blind (free transfer), Caio Henrique (€10.5 million) and Marcos Leonardo (almost €20 million) this summer.

Still, Driessen is particularly unimpressed by the latter two signings. "Everything that has been bought, that a lot of money has been paid for, cannot play. The striker, almost twenty million, cannot play at all. He was not sold by Benfica for nothing."

As for the left-back, Driessen is just as critical. "The left-back, he is a Brazilian, he was injured for a very long time. And after that he has not played a good match anymore. So everything that a lot of money has been paid for is not delivering."

"Now they are working on a Ukrainian again," Driessen says, referring to Viktor Tsygankov of Girona. "But since when have they been able to play football in Ukraine? That is one. Two: he plays for a club, Girona, who were simply relegated with this player. They are looking for someone who runs a lot. But this lad does not run."
