Tyler Adams has a new, and very fitting, nickname
"The Mindreader."
That's not the name of a superhero/character that is set to return in Avengers: Doomsday.
That was the nickname that American midfielder Tyler Adams was given by the commentary team during Bournemouth's Premier League match against Newcastle United. The sentiment was also backed up by SBI Soccer insider Larry Henry Jr.
The praise provided by commentators and pundits alike for the USMNT midfielder is well-placed. After all, Adams was part of a Bournemouth midfield that, under former manager Andoni Iraola, helped the club secure qualification to European competition for the first time.
By running an effective high press and pushing the ball forward, the midfield was able to anchor the team in forward positions and create constant pressure on defenses. Adams' role is more defensive, and that was true last year when he worked in tandem with Marcus Tavernier to help buoy the defense and allow fellow midfielder Alex Scott to push forward and create scoring opportunities.
In the game against Newcastle United, Adams played 75 minutes and helped to give Bournemouth an early 2-0 lead. He was ultimately subbed off with Bournemouth up 2-1, but Newcastle capitalized on his absence and scored an 88th-minute equalizer to complete the comeback and salvage a point.

Unfortunately for Bournemouth, what transpired against Newcastle was only part of a trend that has encompassed their start to the Premier League campaign.
Against Manchester City, Bournemouth held a 1-0 lead deep into the second half, but two goals from Marc Guéhi and Josko Gvardiol allowed the Citizens to reverse the deficit and claim a win in what was the club's first Premier League match since Pep Guardiola's departure. The next week, Bournemouth held a 1-0 lead against Everton, but a late equalizer from James Tarkowski kept the Cherries from their first win of the season.
What both blown advantages had in common was that Adams was subbed on prior to them taking place. But it's not necessarily because he came on that they happened; when he came off against Newcastle, the club proceeded to blow the last half of their 2-0 advantage. The Newcastle game also represented Adams' first start of the Premier League campaign, and it's clear that he performed quite well in the 75-minute stint that resulted.
Bournemouth will have to hope that the blown-lead trend doesn't continue in their third-round EFL Cup tie against Lincoln City, which takes place on Tuesday. After that, the club will be taking on Brentford in Premier League action.
