Tuttosport: Reinstated but unused – the message Amorim has sent to Tomori

AC Milan made the decision to reinstate Fikayo Tomori into the squad, and yet his presence on the field remains to be seen.

Milan were unable to secure the arrival of another central defender in the summer, something they tried to do right until the end, even reportedly bidding €40m to try get Goncalo Inacio. With Tomori failing to find a suitable exit path, Ruben Amorim decided to re-involve him in his plans.

Reinstated but invisible

Tuttosport (via MilanPress) write this morning that the English centre-back was not considered someone that Amorim saw as being a good fit for his style and system. So, at a certain point he decided to exclude him entirely, to send a message that a new club should be sought.

Some teams made moves, with Fulham being the deadline day suggestion, but the former Chelsea man was never convinced and decided to stay. Despite having returned to training with his team-mates and having been called up for four matches, he has yet to take to the field.

Even with Matteo Gabbia’s injury he couldn’t get a game. In the Europa League, coach Amorim preferred to include Filippo Terracciano, a clear sign that Tomori – despite being part of the team – is not considered part of the project.

Now, we’ll see if he gets more playing time after the break, given the Rossoneri will play seven games from October 11 to October 31. It’s possible too that Tomori could just continue making up numbers, waiting for the winter window to come around.
