Tottenham Handed Double Boost Ahead of Charlton League Cup Tie
Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro are both back among the substitutes for Tottenham’s League Cup second-round tie against Charlton, with Roberto De Zerbi confirming the pair’s return at his pre-match press conference. Dominic Solanke is available to start, while Mohammed Kudus and James Maddison will miss out through injury.
As reported by Cartilage Free Captain, the update follows Tottenham’s Premier League opener against Brentford.
De Zerbi said Kudus is not ready yet and confirmed that Maddison has suffered a small shoulder injury. Savio, a new signing, may also be unavailable, with De Zerbi unsure whether he is ready to play or take a place on the bench.
De Zerbi treating cup tie like a league match
De Zerbi indicated that Tottenham will approach the League Cup match with the same focus as a Premier League fixture. He said the side need to get used to winning matches and change the mentality around the club.
Charlton arrive after beating West Ham at the weekend. Rodrigo Bentancur, Mateus Fernandes, Kevin Danso and Souza are among the players who could be involved, but the confirmed team news is that Van de Ven and Porro will return to the bench.
What happens next
Tottenham host Charlton at 7:45pm BST on Wednesday in their first home match of the season.
