Celtic’s interest in Gvidas Gineitis remains one to watch after Torino president Urbano Cairo admitted the Serie A club expect further departures before the transfer window closes.

The 22-year-old Lithuania international remains on Celtic’s radar as Martin O’Neill looks to strengthen his midfield following Arne Engels’ £22million move to West Ham United.

Gineitis’ representative, Dmitry Vinokurov, has previously confirmed contact from Celtic, while Crystal Palace are among the other clubs credited with an interest in the midfielder.

Torino president Cairo has now acknowledged there is significant interest in his club’s players and revealed they are willing to listen to approaches.

He told La Gazzeta dello Sport: “There’s a lot of interest in our players.

“We can’t just ignore calls; we have to listen, and we are listening. At the moment, we’ve rejected all offers made to us. I’ve said no to everyone.

“That’s what’s happened so far, and that’s what I’d like to continue until the end of the transfer window.”

Cairo made those comments while discussing Alessio Cacciamani and Alieu Njie rather than Gineitis, and there is currently no suggestion Celtic have had an offer rejected for the Lithuanian.

Indeed, Vinokurov has previously denied reports that Torino had already knocked back a Celtic bid.

However, Cairo went on to confirm that departures are still anticipated in Turin before the window shuts.

“We still have a few things to do in the market, including some departures,”

“How many more will we sign? It depends on who leaves; three or four new players could be the right number.”
