Martin O’Neill is in the market for another goalkeeper and Toth has emerged as a leading target, with reports in Hungary suggesting negotiations over a move to the Scottish champions have progressed.

However, former Celtic boss Mowbray insists Blackburn have yet to receive an offer for the 28-year-old.

Toth has just one year remaining on his contract at Ewood Park and Mowbray has heard suggestions from agents that the Hungary international could leave before the transfer window closes.

But as far as the Blackburn manager is aware, there has been no club-to-club contact.

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph about Toth, Mowbray said: “I genuinely haven’t got one iota more knowledge, to be honest.

“No, I don’t know anything about it.

“I’m pretty sure that there have been no bids, no offers, nothing for him, and it seems to be very media-driven.

“I’ve got nothing to say, nothing to add, because I don’t know anything more. He is a very calm, cool kid, to be honest. He’s not fazed at all.

“He tells me he’s just getting on with every day’s training and just keep going, so that’s what I expect from him.

“In my mind there have been no bids, no contact about any of our goalkeepers.

“We do sit and think, ‘What if this happens?’ and ‘Where do you think we’re going?’ and we talk about players, and we talk about potential options for what if.

“If nothing happens, we carry on because I think the goalkeeping department is pretty strong with Toth and [Aynsley] Pears particularly, and then the young ones underneath all competing.

“I think we have discussed it, different ideas, different thoughts, whether it be a Premier League loan, whether it be a really talented young goalkeeper from somewhere.

“Are they coming in to be number two, and if Toth went, would we put Pears straight back in?

“For me, you have to create competition. So you have to get the best goalkeeper that you can get and then assess on a daily basis, and then we pick the team and we try and win football matches.”
