A change of scenery could restore the Liverpool striker to his best form

Ruud Gullit reckons his compatriot Cody Gakpo could rediscover his best form at Tottenham, after the forward's influence at Liverpool faded last season.

Spurs are keen to sign the 27-year-old at the request of Roberto De Zerbi, who has put the Liverpool man among his attacking targets this summer alongside Manchester City duo Savinho and Omar Marmoush.

Gakpo "will return to the player everyone knew" should Tottenham convince him to leave Anfield, Gullit told Football London.

The Netherlands forward shone at the World Cup, scoring seven goals and providing five assists across the tournament and the qualifiers. Cementing a place in Liverpool's starting line-up proved a tougher task.

He often came off the bench in the Champions League before earning more Premier League minutes in the second half of the season, finishing with nine goals and six assists.

Tottenham will need to table a substantial offer to prise Gakpo away, and Liverpool want a replacement lined up before sanctioning any exit. They are interested in PSG's French winger Bradley Barcola.

A switch to north London could hand Gakpo a bigger role and more room to shine, Gullit believes, after his battle for a starting spot in Liverpool's attack.
