Tengstedt worth his weight in gold for Go Ahead Eagles, who deal ADO another blow

Go Ahead Eagles climbed to second in the Vriendenloterij Eredivisie with a 3-1 home win over ADO Den Haag, who stay bottom after a third straight defeat.

It took a little while for the breakthrough to arrive at De Adelaarshorst. Søren Tengstedt finished superbly from the left side of the penalty area. The forward is the first Go Ahead player since Harry Decheiver in 1995 to score in four consecutive league matches.

For ADO, it was another setback as they continue to wait for their first point since returning to the Eredivisie. Their problems grew even bigger just after the hour when Victor Edvardsen cut into the box from the right and fired impeccably into the roof of the Hague side's net. This time Tengstedt provided the assist.

Substitute Jesse Bal threatened with a shot with a little under 20 minutes left, although it did not bring ADO the much-desired 2-1. Soon after, Jalen Hawkins fired wide across goal. Go Ahead never looked overly alarmed, though.

Then the tension returned 12 minutes from time. Evan Rottier, played through, finished calmly into the right corner and restored belief for the side from The Hague. Go Ahead knew a difficult finale would follow.

ADO pushed for an equaliser, with Othniël Raterink shooting into the side netting. At the other end, Go Ahead sealed it in stoppage time. Stefán Sigurdarson headed home from a precise cross from the left by Dean James.

That win sends the impressive Go Ahead into second place. ADO have now suffered a third defeat and made a disappointing start to the season.
