Surprise call made: Chelsea star makes transfer decision after enquiry
Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez is reportedly a target for Barcelona as well as Manchester City, according to Simon Phillips on Substack.
The Blues could seemingly be set to lose Fernandez before the end of the transfer window, though it seems the Argentina international is not interested in joining Barca.
According to Phillips’ report, Barcelona director Deco made a call to Chelsea last week, and it now seems clear that Fernandez has decided against a move to the Nou Camp.
For now, Fernandez’s priority is to move to either Man City or Real Madrid if possible.
The latest on Enzo Fernandez’s Chelsea future
“The biggest saga that is ongoing is the Enzo Fernandez saga. As I said last week, I expect to see him involved in our squad on Monday night, and I think his future is going down to the wire,” Phillips wrote.
“His agent has continued talks with Manchester City, and as reported last week, there is an expectation from Chelsea as well as those in the industry, that they will attempt to sign him still this window.
“But don’t rule out other clubs.
“Our sources have heard that Deco made a call to Chelsea last week to ask about Fernandez. We didn’t get any further info on that call. However, we have since received word from Fernandez’ camp and they are all but ruling out any move to Barca.
“The response was clear and simple – Manchester or Madrid, but not Barcelona!”
Barcelona don’t need Enzo Fernandez
One surprising aspect of this story is that Barcelona looked into spending more big money on a new central midfielder after only recently bringing in Rodri from Man City.
Of course, Fernandez is a fine player on his day, so could have been another good addition, but it was never likely to be a cheap deal, and it perhaps doesn’t make sense as a priority.
