Sportitalia - Cardinale, contacts over joining the ownership of Al Nassr: he wants to expand RedBird’s multi-club ownership after AC Milan and Toulouse
AC Milan’s number one is thinking about expanding the squad of teams controlled by, or under the direct influence of, the fund
Gerry Cardinale is not only thinking big with his AC Milan. While the Rossoneri chief keeps insisting he wants to make the club great again, Sportitalia report he is also looking to expand the influence of his investment fund RedBird Capitals across international football.
Now, after Toulouse and AC Milan, the next move could come in Saudi Arabia, with Al Nassr, the club of Cristiano Ronaldo, in his sights.
Preliminary contacts
Sportitalia reports that in recent days there have been preliminary and indirect contacts through intermediaries to assess whether RedBird Capitals could take a stake in, or buy into, the ownership of Al Nassr.
He wants another club
The American manager wants to expand the multi-club ownership model he has already launched with AC Milan and Toulouse. Right now, a deal for the Arab club is not easy to push through and is still a long way from being finalised, which is why other opportunities could also still be considered.
Is PIF selling?
The PIF fund, which until last year controlled the top four clubs in the Saudi league, have been working for some time on an exit strategy from at least two of the four teams, including Al Nassr. With that in mind, they have launched a plan to bring the accounts into line, which could also help attract potential shareholders or buyers.
