Slegers reveals Arsenal star is out of UWCL clash

Renee Slegers revealed that Chloe Kelly will not be fit to play in Arsenal’s UEFA Women’s Champions League clash against Paris FC on Wednesday.

Kelly has reportedly been suffering with a hamstring issue through the early stages of this season.

The winger was not included in Sarina Wiegman’s England squad for the upcoming fixtures against Greece. Slegers was asked about her fitness ahead of their UWCL match this week.

“Chloe Kelly is not available,” she answered. “You saw Élisa De Almeida in the background; she’s coming back, which is really positive. Not ready for tomorrow yet. And Steph Catley won’t travel.

“I think Sarina had a press conference this morning, and that’s between England and player, of course.” Slegers added about Kelly missing out on the England squad.

“That is their decision. I don’t know exactly what’s being communicated in that moment, but of course that’s Sarina’s decision.”

Arsenal were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea at the weekend; Slegers summed up the match.

“I mean, top game I think on Sunday,” she said. “Two really strong teams against each other. I think we did a lot of really good things up until their goal.

“I think we had a more difficult phase at the start of the second half and then towards the end of the game we looked to force it, but it was more open towards the end. S

“So we can take a lot of positives in the performance from that first 30-40 minutes that we definitely want to continue to build on because I think we dominated in many ways.

“We put pressure on them in many ways and we were close. We all know that we can play, the aggression that we can have on the pitch out of possession. So it’s about that final goal.”
