Shocking images: Ajax fan seriously assaulted over scarf

Police are searching for two men alleged to have been involved in the serious assault of an Ajax supporter. The incident happened after the match between Ajax and Go Ahead Eagles on 17 January, near the Johan Cruyff ArenA.

Following the match, a group of three men were walking near the stadium when two other men approached them. One of those men is alleged to have taken an interest in a free scarf handed out to visitors before the match.

Police say the man wanted the scarf, which led to a confrontation. One of the Ajax fans ended up on the ground and the scarf was then pulled from his neck.

"I want one for my children," the man is said to have told police. The pair then made off with the stolen scarf.

Rather than leave it there, the three supporters gave chase. They wanted the scarf back and caught up with the two men shortly afterwards.

A second confrontation then broke out and escalated into a fight. One of the three Ajax supporters was seriously assaulted in the process, according to police.

During the attack, the victim was kicked hard in the head, among other things. He suffered a concussion and several broken teeth as a result of the violence.

Now police have released footage of the serious assault and are searching for the two men involved. They are suspected of involvement in the violence that followed the argument over the free Ajax scarf.
