Serie B: Palermo score immediately, draw between Cesena and Sampdoria, wins for Padova and Ascoli

The results of the four Serie B matches played on Sunday

Palermo make the right start and take the first three points of the league campaign. Filippo Inzaghi's side beat Juve Stabia 1-0 after a far-from-simple contest, settled by a goal in the opening stages.

Johnsen breaks the deadlock, doing well to make the most of Pohjanpalo's assist and score what proved to be the winner. Palermo withstand the visitors' fightback and claim a valuable win, sending an immediate message for the league campaign.

The evening's other match brought the first draw of the new Serie B season. Cesena and Sampdoria finished 1-1, with the home side going in front through the usual Cristian Shpendi. The game turned in the second half when Cesena went down to 10 men after David's sending-off for a second yellow card.

With the extra man, Sampdoria found a late equaliser through Henderson, who made it 1-1 and ensured the Blucerchiati avoided defeat.

Sunday in Serie B also produced two important away wins: Padova won at Pisa, while Ascoli took all three points at Hellas Verona.
