Al-Hilal legend Sami Al-Jaber has sparked controversy among Al-Nassr's fans with some surprising comments after the big win that "Al-Alami" secured over Al-Fateh by three goals to nil on Saturday evening, in the first round of the Roshn Saudi Pro League.
Al-Nassr began the defence of their title in style under Australian coach Ange Postecoglou. The team delivered a striking attacking performance that delighted their fans, with several new signings standing out, most notably Joao Felix, Angelo Gabriel and Samu Costa.
Yet despite that strong start, Al-Nassr's fans are still awaiting further moves from the club's management in the transfer market. So far the team have concluded only one foreign deal, signing Portugal's Samu Costa from Real Mallorca, and some of their needs remain unmet.
Al-Jaber took a completely different view. Contrary to the fans' demands, he insisted Al-Nassr do not need to add players at the present time, basing this on the level the team showed against Al-Fateh.
Speaking on the "Nadeena" programme, Al-Jaber said: "You cannot judge any team from the opening rounds. Al-Nassr delivered a good level and does not need to add players." The comments stirred wide reaction among the fans of "Al-Alami", especially as a section of them see the need to reinforce the team with new deals before the transfer market closes.

The Al-Hilal legend did not stop there. He also praised the team's new image under Postecoglou, explaining: "Al-Nassr's play today was different from last season's style, and Al-Nassr is a strong club," in reference to the development shown by the team compared to last season.
"Al-Nassr's level is different, they attack more powerfully and the ball moves faster," Al-Jaber added, offering clear praise after their first appearance. His talk of not needing reinforcements may open a new door for controversy, though. The season is still long, and the real tests for Al-Nassr will be tougher as the matches and competitions come thick and fast.
Al-Jaber's comments come as Al-Nassr's management look to complete a squad capable of competing for all titles. The coming days will reveal whether "Al-Alami" stay content with what they have, or keep moving in the market for new deals despite that strong start against Al-Fateh.
