Liverpool finished of their per-season campaign with a 2-0 victory over Como on Sunday evening, goals from Cody Gakpo and debutantJeremy Jacquet in the first half made sure that the Reds closed of their tour with a victory.

The big talking point coming out of that game was on the performance of Jacquet on his first appearance for the club, was excellent in his defensive duals, strong in the air, comfortable on the ball and rounded it up with a goal.

The defender signed for £60 million in January from Stade Rennais and has had to wait a while to make his first appearance for the club. Jacquet joined up with the squad early on in pre-season but a couple of knocks in training stopped him from participating in any of the games in America.

There was a lot of anticipation around this signing especially with the departure of Konate and Giovanni Leoni still recovering from his ACL injury.

The French defender had not played a competitive match since February coming into yesterdays game but on the pitch it did not look that way. He was very sharp and looked like there would be no issue with him starting the first game of the Premier league season in six days time.

Fellow teammateRyan Gravenberch also recognised the immense 45 minutes Jacquet showcased to the Liverpool faithful: Speaking to Sky Sports post match he said:

" Of course to get his first goal in his first game, I am very happy for him, I think his first action he got the ball and then he slipped away, you know, so he is comfortable on the ball and also one-against-one defending he is doing a really good job, So i am really happy he is here. Everyone loved it, so I am very happy for him"

There was a lot of doubts coming into the new season on who was going to partner Van Djik, but Jacquet proved he is more than equipped to play alongside the Dutchman this season. The responsibility on the shoulders of Jacquet this season are massive, replacing fellow Frenchman Konate will not be an easy task.

Iraola will be confident however that he will consistently get the best out of Jacquet now that Ronald Araujo has arrived to the club. The Uruguayan also made his first appearance for the club in the victory yesterday.

The defender brought in on a loan deal from Barcelona with an option to buy, will prove to be great cover for the French centre back this season. Leoni also making his way back to full fitness and the return of Joe Gomez getting ever closer, gives the new manager plenty of options to use at the back this season.

All eyes now are set on this Sundays fixture, a trip to St James Park awaits the Reds in the opening fixture of the Premier League season. With the league around the corner, Jacquet putting in a monstrous debut performance will ease any worries that may have been voiced on Liverpool's backline.
