Ronaldo hints at international retirement: I wish Portugal good luck, and I will reveal the truth at the right time
Words of farewell?
Cristiano Ronaldo has broken his silence over his departure from the Portugal camp ahead of their UEFA Nations League clash with Denmark, promising to reveal in due course the reasons behind his decision.
The Portugal captain posted a statement on his official social media accounts after leaving the team's base in Denmark, his private jet already primed for the flight back to Madrid.
Ronaldo said in his statement: "After the national team coach's press conference, and after a conversation with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, I decided to leave the national team camp".
He added: "At the appropriate time, I will tell all Portuguese people the truth about the reasons that led me to leave the national team to which I have always dedicated myself".
The forward signed off his message by saying: "Now is the right time to wish good luck to Portugal and to all my team-mates, without exception".
