Reo Hatate has reportedly rejected offers from Greece, Austria and the MLS as the Celtic midfielder holds out for a move to one of Europe’s top five leagues.

The 28-year-old has found himself out of the picture under Martin O’Neill during the opening weeks of the season and has informed Celtic of his desire to leave.

According to Stephen McGowan in The Herald, Panathinaikos made Hatate a lucrative proposal to move to Greece, while approaches have also arrived from an unnamed Austrian club and the United States.

However, the Japan international has turned down the options currently on the table and is prepared to wait until the closing stages of the transfer window in the hope of securing a move to one of Europe’s major leagues.

Hatate has been an unused substitute during the early weeks of the campaign and Celtic are not expected to stand in his way should a suitable offer arrive.

The Hoops have already strengthened their midfield with the arrival of Mika Baur from Paderborn and are planning another addition following Arne Engels’ £22million move to West Ham United.

Celtic also remain in the market for cover at left-back, with Chelsea youngster Landon Emenalo having already visited Glasgow ahead of a potential season-long loan once he recovers from a minor injury.

Hatate has made 189 appearances for Celtic since arriving during Ange Postecoglou’s first season in charge, collecting five league titles, three Scottish Cups and two League Cups during his time at the Scottish championship.
