Referee selected for next Italy match against Turkey on October 5
Polish referee Szymon Marciniak has been selected as the referee for the upcoming Nations League match between Italy and Turkey on Monday, October 5.
Marciniak to referee Italy vs. Turkey
Italy will host Turkey at the Dall’Ara in Bologna on Monday evening for their fourth and final Nations League match of the extra-long September-October international break.
Roberto Mancini and Vincenzo Montella’s sides have already met once this break, in Bursa last week, which the Azzurri won 4-1 thanks to goals from Alessandro Bastoni, Davide Frattesi, Michael Kayode and Pio Esposito.
Italy have since drawn 1-1 away against France on Friday evening and were beaten 2-0 by Belgium just before their 4-1 victory away against Turkey.
The match officials for the next game against Turkey have now been confirmed: It will be a Polish officiating team led by Marciniak and assistants Tomasz Listkiewicz and Adam Kupsik and fourth official Karol Arys. Piotr Lasyk will be the video assistant referee and Swizz Lukas Faehndrich will be his assistant.
This is a slightly worrying omen for Italy, as they have not won any of their previous four matches that have been refereed by Marciniak.
Marciniak was also the man with the whistle for Italy’s 3-3 draw with Germany in the second leg of their Nations League quarter-final back in 2025. He also took charge of Italy’s 2-0 loss against Switzerland in the EURO 2024 round of 16, a 0-0 draw against England in the Nations League in 2022 and a 3-1 friendly defeat against Belgium all the way back in 2015.
Marciniak was also the referee for the 2023 Champions League final when Inter were defeated 1-0 by Manchester City in Istanbul. He has also refereed a World Cup final, between victors Argentina and runners-up France in Qatar in 2022.
