Records tumble at Spotify Camp Nou: Raphinha and Yamal shine in 5-2 masterclass
History has been written under the Spotify Camp Nou lights today as FC Barcelona put on an attacking feast, comprehensively thrashing Rayo Vallecano 5-2. Rayo may have shown early sparks, but they were soon doused by the intensity of Hansi Flick’s side who ran rampant with a fluid system of intricate movement, and fierce press to secure all three points comfortably.
Lamine Yamal recordbreaker
It was always inevitable that the headlines today would gravitate towards the ever-improving, almost physics defying Lamine Yamal. With his brace against Rayo Vallecano, the 19-year-old became youngest player ever to reach 50 career goals in Europe's top five leagues surpassing Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.
Raphinha's phenomenal numbers
Despite Lamine breaking the recpords, it was Raphinha who took home the well deserved Man of the Match award on the back of a tireless performance. The Brazilian winger proved uncontainable. His two goal thriller put him on 140 goal involvements in 180 games for Barcelona.
He once again played the free roaming false 9 position which helped him exploit open spaces and carve up holes in the visitor's compact low block.
New blood and attacking power on display
While Barca ran out commanding 5-2 victors against a defensively fragile Rayo, there were other subtle things that proved the immense quality of the current FC Barcelona squad.
From his constant dribbling, to his pure attacking power, Anthony Gordon caused a constant threat in the last 3rd, stretching the defence and providing opportunities. He was ably supported by his fellow attackers including the goal hungry Raphinha.
And for a touch of magic, Hansi Flick decided to bring on highly talented wonderkid Hamza Abdelkarim for his first-team debut after hugely impressing everyone in the pre-season.
