Record: Amorim asked Milan to reject late approach from Portuguese giants for Estupinan

Ruben Amorim vetoed the potential sale of Pervis Estupinan to one of his former clubs late in the window, it is claimed.

During the summer mercato, which closed a few days ago, Estupinan was at the centre of numerous rumours. Aston Villa in particular were widely discussed as a destination and they seemed close to signing him, but Amorim said he wanted to evaluate him in preseason.

According to the Portuguese newspaper Record (via MilanNews), Benfica came forward too. In the final weeks of August, the Portuguese club’s management made several attempts to bring him to Lisbon, but once again Amorim refused.

The coach made it clear to the management that he did not want to let Estupinan go as he considers him important to his plans. So, Manuel Rui Costa’s club had to change targets for the left flank, and they got Souffian El Karouani from Al-Qadisiya on loan with an option to buy.

Although he was initially included in the list of probable departures after a rather disappointing first season with Milan, Amorim coached him for a few weeks and ultimately decided to block his departure because he considers him a useful asset.

Confirming this is the fact that the former Brighton player has started two of Milan’s three league matches so far, namely those against Torino and Juventus.
