Rebeca Bernal set to become Manchester United Women’s fourth summer signing

Manchester United Women are closing in on a deal to sign Mexico international Rebeca Bernal from Washington Spirit, with the versatile defender poised to become the club’s fourth signing of the summer.

According to The Peoples Person, citing The Cutback, United are finalising the move, and sources have told the outlet the club are confident of getting the deal done before the WSL transfer deadline closes on Thursday.

Another versatile addition for Olid

United have been busy overhauling the squad this summer, having sold Melvine Malard, Lisa Naalsund and Millie Turner, while also changing manager, with Eva Olid replacing Marc Skinner after he left the club at the start of August.

Three signings have already arrived at Carrington this summer in Andrea Medina, Janina Leitzig and Monica Jusu Bah, and Bernal would represent a fourth. She’s described as a hybrid defensive midfielder and centre-back, capable of switching between the two positions from game to game or even within the same 90 minutes, a profile that fits neatly alongside the ball-playing defenders already at the club, having previously moved on Gabby George to Brighton earlier in the window.
