It has been a turbulent summer for Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio, although he did manage to stay at the club despite being told that he was not part of Jose Mourinho’s plans for the 2026-27 season. The defender, who is due back soon from an injury, also had a high-profile incident occur off the pitch, and not for the first time in his career.

Asencio, who has been under investigation over the alleged dissemination of a video with sexual conduct involving a minor, caught the attention of the authorities again over the summer. As per Canarias 7 (via MD), he was caught driving in Gran Canaria while under the influence of alcohol, and subsequent found him to be “well above” the maximum blood alcohol level with a result of 0.90mg/l – the legal limit is 0.25mg/l.

Asencio was subsequently charged with drink driving, and he has now been convinced. He has been fined €14,400, while he has also has his license revoked for eight months.

Asencio due back in court this month

In this case, Asencio has been convinced, but in the aforementioned matter regarding the alleged dissemination of a video of sexual content involving a minor, the Real Madrid defender could have the accusation ahead him withdrawn. The Provincial Prosecutor’s Office is prepared to do this if the victims confirm during the trial that he has apologised to them regarding the matter. He will be required to attend court for this, with that expected to be some time this month.

In terms of on-field matters, Asencio is working his way back to full fitness. He had been expected to be in the squad to face Malaga over the weekend, but while he missed out there, he could receive the medical green light for Friday’s trip to La Cartuja to face Real Betis.
