Rangers receive fresh Djeidi Gassama transfer option as Danny Rohl offers reunion
RB Salzburg have reportedly made an offer to Rangers for Djeidi Gassama, with the winger's impressive display at Aberdeen coming on the same day as fresh transfer interest emerged.
According to French journalist Santi Aouna, Salzburg have made a proposal to Rangers for the Mauritanian international, while other clubs are also understood to remain in the race.
The development comes after Gassama played a decisive role in Rangers' 1-0 victory over Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Sunday.
The winger won the penalty from which Lawrence Shankland scored the only goal of the game, producing the key moment that ultimately secured Derek McInnes' first Scottish Premiership victory of the season.
Gassama was also named Sky Sports' Player of the Match following his performance.
Danny Rohl offers Gassama reunion
The latest Salzburg approach has an obvious connection to Rangers' recent history, with former Ibrox head coach Danny Rohl now in charge of the Austrian club.
The German worked with Gassama during their time together at Sheffield Wednesday before the winger followed his former manager to Rangers after Rohl replaced Russell Martin last October.
Gassama joined Rangers from Sheffield Wednesday in July 2025 in a deal worth around £2.2m, signing a four-year contract.
Other interest in Gassama
The winger has subsequently attracted significant attention, despite inconsistent form across his first year in Scotland, with Rangers already receiving interest from elsewhere this summer.
Reports earlier this week claimed Italian clubs Monza and Parma had submitted offers of around £6 million for Gassama, while Monaco have also been linked with a renewed move for the player.
Indeed, Monaco's interest stretches back to January, when Rangers reportedly rejected a proposal involving a loan with a €10 million obligation-to-buy for Gassama.
Gassama's current Rangers contract runs until 2029, giving the Ibrox club a strong negotiating position as interest continues to build.
The winger's importance to McInnes was evident at Pittodrie, where he started alongside Kim Min-Su and Findlay Curtis in support of Shankland. Daisuke Yokota came off the bench.
His ability to win the decisive penalty ensured he had a direct influence on the result, with Rangers securing a much-needed three points after their European disappointment against Jablonec in the Conference League playoff round.
Rangers have reportedly been willing to listen to offers for Gassama, although the club's valuation is understood to be significantly higher than some of the bids that have already arrived. Recent reporting has suggested an asking price around €10m (£8.5m).
