Ramos discusses new Portugal system and gaining confidence after goal: “A good performance”
Goncalo Ramos scored the winner for Portugal against Norway last night and AC Milan will be glad to see him add another to his tally.
On another night, Ramos could’ve left Norway with the match ball. He scored the chip – which was lovely for what it’s worth – and then he had one ruled out for being offside. For what it’s worth, he also missed a good chance from a few yards out.
As we say, on another day, he probably leaves with three goals and plenty more plaudits. Nevertheless, it’s a first goal for him in about a month and that can only be seen as a positive. If he gets a few more before the end of the break, it’d be a huge win for all parties.
Ramos speaks after goal
Speaking to the media after the win against Norway, Ramos looked at his goal, the new coach and his performance as MilanPress relays.
“Scoring always gives me confidence, whether I’m a starter or a substitute. The most important thing is playing, feeling part of the team. More than feeling outshined or outplayed, what matters is feeling the confidence of the coach and my teammates.”
A satisfying performance?
“I’d say so. It was a good performance. I scored the winning goal, and the team won on a difficult pitch. Maybe that’s a question for the coach, but I think so.”

“You only have to watch the game to see the differences. It’s not very easy to train due to the lack of time; it’s basically about recovering and assimilating information, rather than applying it on the pitch, because we don’t have long training sessions.
“The big difference is that we’re pressing higher up, trying to suffocate the opponents.”
On his goal…
“Before the goalkeeper’s pass, I saw the midfielder was behind me, and I knew they take big risks and play for the centre. In the end, I faked it, and when I intercepted the pass, the first thing that came to mind was a lob, because the goalkeeper was out of position, so I tried to score from there. As a striker, every goal gives you confidence.”
The match…
“Our goal is always clear: to press and try to dominate every match, regardless of the opponent. Norway is a great team, and so are we. It was precisely thanks to our style of play that we were able to assert ourselves in this very difficult away match.”
Besides being Portuguese himself, the result and how Ramos (and how Portugal played) is likely to have impressed Ruben Amorim. It means he is continuously playing in this press-heavy system, which will only benefit Milan.
