Purveyor of joy: Real Madrid celebrate the Asensio deal
A fiery start
Real Madrid unveiled Carlos Espi as their newest signing on Sunday, with a special ceremony inside the boardroom at Real Madrid City.
Club president Florentino Perez and honorary president Jose Martinez Pirri joined the player for the occasion.
The former Levante man put pen to paper on a contract that ties him to the Whites until June 2031.
According to the Spanish newspaper "AS", Espi's move came in a flash. Real Madrid wrapped up By the next day he was already at Valdebebas, training with his new teammates and desperate to force his way into the squad. It worked.
Espi could hardly have asked for a better start. He has not started a single game, and he has taken just 6 shots, 5 of them on target, across 5 matches. Yet the arrival from Valencia already tops the scoring charts with 3 goals.
Two of those goals came in pre-season. The third, and the most important, arrived against Espanyol to hand Real Madrid their first 3 points of the league campaign.
Last season began quietly for Espi, with little sign of a regular role. Then Luis Castro walked into the dugout at the Ciutat de Valencia and handed him a starting berth throughout the second half of the campaign.
The striker seized his chance, firing in 11 goals in 25 matches to drag the club to survival against the odds.
A new story now opens for Espi at Real Madrid, and the first chapter is already written: his unveiling as one of the Whites.
