Gerry Cardinale has made it very clear what will happen to players who refuse to leave this summer, hoping it will accelerate the outgoing mercato.

Cardinale was present at Milanello yesterday for a summit with Ruben Amorim and the Milan management. The gaffer got to submit his list of players who aren’t part of the project, while he also asked for quite a few signings to compete this season.

With just two weeks left of the mercato, a lot of focus will be on selling players, knowing just how difficult it can be to do so. However, the American owner has taken measures to (hopefully) accelerate this process.

Cardinale puts his foot down

Speaking about the situation on his YouTube channel, Pietro Balzano Prota explained that Cardinale has issued an ultimatum of sorts to the players who aren’t part of the project. Either they leave, or they won’t play a single minute.

“We can shed some light on Gerry Cardinale’s plan. It’s a sort of hard line, or ultimatum if you like, to those who could refuse to leave the club. If a player doesn’t want to leave despite being told to do so by the club, that player won’t play a single minute during the upcoming season.

“It’s true that Milan would lose money, paying wages and so on, but the player would be under pressure. ‘We lose money, but you lose valuable time in your career’.

“This is nothing personal against the player, it’s just that too many players have been obstructing in questionable ways lately. So that’s why Cardinale opted for his hard stance,” he said.
