On video: a worrying win for Zamalek in the CAF Champions League
A step towards qualification
Zamalek edged a nervy 2-1 win over AS Port of Djibouti on Friday in the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round at Cairo Stadium.
The opener arrived in the sixth minute. Shiko Banza carried the ball into the box down the left with a brilliant piece of individual play and delivered a cross that the goalkeeper only half-cleared. Mohamed Shehata pounced on the loose ball and rolled it into an empty net.
Banza doubled the lead in the 36th minute. Ahmed Abdel Rahim swung in a corner from the right and the Angolan met it with a header that nestled into the left corner of the goal.
AS Port pulled one back through Mahdi Hussein Mahbi. Ahmed Khodari gave the ball away with a costly pass, Mahdi Hussein read it, intercepted, and fired past Mohamed Sobhi.
The return leg takes place on 12 September, again in Egypt.
