Official: Real Madrid announce new signing before Sociedad clash

Real Madrid have moved again to bolster their squad before the season starts, announcing this evening the presentation of their latest summer signing, Spanish full-back Marc Cucurella, from England's Chelsea.

The club confirmed the deal on their website, days before a rescheduled clash with Real Sociedad. That postponed opening-round La Liga fixture takes place next Wednesday at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Madrid staged a special ceremony for the player in the meeting hall at their Sports City, with president Florentino Pérez and honorary president José Martínez Pirri looking on. Cucurella put pen to a long-term contract running six seasons, until 30 June 2032. He then received a commemorative model of the Bernabéu and a luxury watch before showing off his new shirt, which carries the number 17.

That makes Cucurella Real Madrid's fourth signing of the summer window, following Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konaté and Denzel Dumfries, all part of the management's plan to reinforce every position.

The Merengue hierarchy sealed the deal for around 60 million euros. At 27, the left-back returns to the Spanish top flight through the door of its biggest club after a notable spell in the Premier League with Chelsea.
