O Jogo: Porto boosted in Gimenez pursuit as Milan change formula stance – the situation

AC Milan are working on offloading various players, and they have softened their stance regarding Santiago Gimenez.

After the club-record arrival of Goncalo Ramos, Milan are continuing to work on Gimenez’s departure. The Mexican striker has long been a target for Lazio and Porto, but it’s the Portuguese club that has made the most significant moves by reaching an agreement with the player.

An opening from Milan

According to O Jogo (via Calciomercato.com), a very important piece of news has arrived from the Milan side that could facilitate the former Feyenoord player’s move to the Dragoes.

Gennaro Gattuso has been clear about the Mexican in recent days: Lazio only want someone who’s already convinced by the move. In effect, the Biancocelesti pulled out of the race, partly due to the player’s lack of openness and partly due to a lack of funds.

However, by doing so they left the door open for Porto. Thanks in part to the intermediary work of Ruben Amorim’s agency, the Portuguese side have now reached an agreement with the player and his entourage.

Until now, Milan had always asked for a permanent sale or a loan with obligation to buy. Porto never expressed openness to this formula, so the Rossoneri have taken a step towards them by agreeing to a loan with option.

It is believed that the minimum figure for the option will be set at €20m, in order to avoid a capital loss on the accounts. Negotiations have not yet officially begun, but the Rossoneri’s move – if confirmed – could facilitate the closure quickly.
