Niko Sigur ‘keen’ on Celtic move as Hoops prepare Hajduk Split talks
Celtic have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Niko Sigur, with the Canada international reportedly keen on a move to the Hoops.
Martin O’Neill has already strengthened his squad with the additions of Haissem Hassan and Mika Baur, but Celtic remain active in the transfer market.
Sigur has now returned to the Hoops’ radar after earlier interest failed to develop into a deal.
According to a fresh update via Daily Record on the 22-year-old’s future, Sigur has been aware of Celtic’s interest for a couple of weeks and would be keen to join the Scottish champions.
Chief executive Michael Nicholson was already expected to open talks with Hajduk Split over a potential transfer, meaning Celtic now know the player is receptive to the move.
That should at least make Nicholson’s job a little easier.
Celtic do not need to sell Sigur on joining. Instead, the challenge will be convincing Hajduk to part with one of their prized assets.
Sigur came through the Croatian club’s academy and is not expected to leave cheaply, with a significant seven-figure offer likely to be required.
Celtic’s renewed interest also suggests Sigur is far from a late name being thrown into the transfer mix.
The Hoops have already explored a move in January and clearly rate him highly enough to return to the negotiating table.
