Newcastle United predicted XI vs Millwall: Matthias Jaissle to make eight changes for Carabao Cup clash
GK: Nick Pope
An unlikely injury to Ewen Jaouen has left the door open for Tuesday's game and we are still unsure as to who Jaissle will pick.
Perhpas it makes more sense to give Hornicek another game to get to grips with everything, but there is also the risk that he ends up injured too, which would leave Nick Pope as Newcastle's only goalkeeper option.
In a game which is likely to be physical against Millwall, taking Hornicek out of the firing line does feel like the sensible option here - although it wouldn't be a shock to see the Czech line up again.
For those reasons, Nick Pope will rise from the depths to once again pull on a Newastle shirt - for better or for worse.
RB: Tino Livramento
The fullback positions are interesting coming into this game.
Tino Livramento returned from injury against Bournemouth but actually came off the bench for Lewis Hall at left back rather than his usual right back spot.
With that little bit of extra rest for Hall in mind, it feels as though this is a good opportunity to give Amar Dedic a bit of a break, especially with the relentless running he has shown so far this season.
Livramento needs minutes under his belt to get back to match fitness and this feels like the perfect opportunity to do that swap.
CB: Malick Thiaw
Malick Thiaw probably had his most shaky game so far this season at the weekend, but then so did almost all of Newcastle's defensive unit.
For that reason, it feels as though keeping him in the starting lineup here does make sense as he continues to learn how to perform what is asked of him under Jaissle.
Thiaw will continue with the armband if he does start here and a little bit of stability in what will otherwise be a rotated lineup does make sense.
CB: Sven Botman
I wouldn't at all be surprised to see Fabian Schar come in to one of these centre back positions and, of the two, I feel it is probably more likely to be Botman given his injury record.
Even with that being said I am backing Botman to start again here and keep building up that partnership with Malick Thiaw.
Hopefully the big Dutchman will be able to put the uncertainty of Saturday behind him and punch in a decent display against Millwall.
LB: Lewis Hall
I briefly mentioned Hall in my reasoning for dropping Dedic and, given those few minutes of extra rest and the lack of obvious back up to him in the ranks, it would make sense if he starts again here.
In fact, this could be a good opportunity to start building a bit of a partnership with Bazoumana Toure down the left hand side (spoiler) too, which looked to be something that needed attention against West Brom not too long ago.
CM: Sean Steur
Steur came on against Bournemouth and looked very tidy, making a notiecable difference to the Magpies' ability to sustain pressure in the Bournemouth half.
The 18-year-old is going to need a good chunk of minutes this season both based on his development and the quality he has shown so far, and there feels no better chance to hand him that opportunity than a tricky away fixture in the Carabao Cup.
CM: Aladji Bamba
Bamba has been largely a spectator so far this season, including in the previous Carabao Cup fixture against West Brom where he failed to register a single minute.
This one will hopefully be different though and a start for Bamba feels as though it is in the pipeline for Tuesday night.
If Steur and Bamba do make up the double pivot, there is certainly a lot of intrigue about how the two may compliment each others game.
CAM: Jacob Ramsey
There was an expectation among fans that Ramsey would be a starter this season, but the arrival of Nico Gonzalez has seen him take his spot on the bench yet again this season.
Ramsey did come on to great affect at the weekend, socring the equaliser in the 88th minute, and spoke about his desire to fight for a starting spot after the game.
This could be the perfect opportunity for him to showcase why he should be starting and a stint in the number 10 could be exactly what he needs to get the creative juices flowing.
RW: Jacob Murphy
This one is pretty straightforward. Elanga started at the weekend, Murphy should start midweek - unless Jaissle has some other masterplan we haven't yet discovered.
Murphy looks set to be second choice this season barring a drastic change in thinking and this game will see him line up alongisde his fellow second-stringers.
ST: Matias Fernandez-Pardo
This is surely an absolute no brainer.
Fernandez-Pardo came on at the weekend and looked exceptionally sharp, quick, hard-working and creative in his cameo.
The Belgian does still needto get back to full match fitness after missing Lille's entire preseason and there is no better opportunity to give him the needed minutes than a Carabao Cup 3rd round.
LW: Bazoumana Toure
Toureis very much being bedded in slowly, hence why he is yet to get any sort of substantial Premier League outing.
He did, however, score on his debut against West Brom in this competition last time out and it once again seems he is in line for a start as he becomes more familiar with the tactics and gains confidence in his new surroundings.
