Jose Mourinho has revealed the conversation he had with Vinicius Junior where he warned the winger that he would regret leaving Real Madrid for Arsenal.

Vinicius was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal earlier this summer, before recommitting his future to Real Madrid with a new long-term deal.

Arsenal had hoped to lure the Brazilian to the Premier League and were prepared to break their transfer record and wage structure to sign the 26-year-old.

The North Londoners were reportedly prepared to table an offer of around €150m for Vinicius, whose former contract was due to expire next summer, in a transfer that would have represented a British record.

Vinicius instead opted for a lucrative new deal in Madrid, extending his eight-season spell at the club until 2032.

“Don’t go. It’s not worth it”: Mourinho reveals warning to Vinicius about leaving Real Madrid for Arsenal

Mourinho, who returned to the Bernabeu as head coach this summer, has now opened up on his conversation with Vinicius. He revealed his warning to Vinicius that the only way out from Real Madrid is down.

"I called him, I told him Vini, where do you want to go? You only know Real Madrid," Mourinho told El Chiringuito TV.

"When you leave, then you'll know what Real Madrid is. Don't go. It's not worth it. I was sure [he would stay] because he is in love with Real Madrid!"
