Moretto: Rabiot ‘very happy’ at Milan as Cardinale seeks contract extension
Christian Pulisic’s contract situation is not the only one that Gerry Cardinale plans to tackle, according to Matteo Moretto.
In recent weeks, it has been reported that Milan’s intention to renew Pulisic and Adrien Rabiot’s contracts by the end of 2026. This afternoon, further confirmation on the matter arrived, with Matteo Moretto discussing it in a video on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel.
“There’s been a lot of discussion these days about the futures of Pulisic and Rabiot. What I can confirm 100% is that AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale is absolutely focused on the renewals of the two players. He wants to keep Pulisic and Rabiot,” he said (via MilanNews).
“Important contacts and discussions are expected between now and the end of the year to reach an agreement on the extension of their two contracts. Pulisic’s contract expires in 2027, with the club holding the option for a 2028 contract.
“Rabiot’s contract expires in 2028, with an option for a 2029 contract. But Cardinale certainly wants to extend both contracts with corresponding salary increases. He wants to give fair compensation to these two players who have demonstrated a very high level on the pitch while playing for Milan.
“Discussions regarding Pulisic have been ongoing for almost a year and a half, and Milan has been working on it for some time. A few setbacks have not led to a positive outcome so far, but Cardinale wants to speed things up and close this issue.
“As for Rabiot, he’s very happy at AC Milan, but a financial agreement needs to be reached, and regarding the new contract expiration date.”
There is no doubting that Rabiot has been a fantastic signing for Milan, having arrived for just €7m from Marseille following a bust-up with a team-mate that led to him being pushed out of the club.
Last season, the Frenchman racked up six goals and four assists in 29 Serie A games. This season, he already has two goals and two assists in five league appearances, suggesting he could even better his numbers from 2025-26.
