Moretto: Confirmation on Milan’s new focus as Amorim considers defence ‘complete’
Ruben Amorim is no longer pushing for the signing of a centre-back, diverting all attention to the attack as the defence is considered ‘complete’.
In the last few days, following the arrival of Diego Moreira, reports have suggested that Amorim wants another two signings before the mercato closes: one centre-back and one attacking midfielder. However, there seems to have been a change on this front.
Gazzetta dello Sport reported earlier today that yesterday’s meeting between Amorim and Gerry Cardinale resulted in a shift in priorities. As opposed to trying to get two players, they will now focus on getting the perfect attacking midfielder instead.
Full focus on the attack
Speaking about the situation on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, Matteo Moretto confirmed that this is indeed the case. Amorim even considers the defence ‘complete’, which may or may not have something to do with Filippo Terracciano staying.
“Milan are looking for an attacking midfielder. Initially, there was also the idea of getting a centre-back, but Amorim believes that the defensive department is complete. So Milan are continuing to work on the attacking midfielder and the sales,” he stated.
While quality can always be debated, Milan will have enough players even if Fikayo Tomori leaves the club: Mario Gila, Matteo Gabbia, Strahinja Pavlovic, Koni De Winter, Sankhoun Diawara, Filippo Terracciano, and even Davide Bartesaghi.
The same ‘depth’ cannot really be found for the attacking midfield role, especially given the lack of a left-footed player, so it might be wise to spend the money there.
