Moreira starts and Rabiot comes off bench as France put on late show vs. Belgium
There was an international AC Milan battle on Monday night as France faced off against Belgium at the Stade de France.
It looked for a while as if Belgium were going to snatch an impressive result after Dodi Lukebakio’s opening goal. However, France scored four goals in the final 13 minutes to come from behind and rout the Red Devils. It was the second late show in a few days from Zidane’s side.
Les Bleus equalised when Desire Doue’s low shot from outside the box beat Maarten Vandevoordt. Not long after that Rayan Cherki put them in front, before Michael Olise bagged a late brace to make sure of the Nations League points.
How the Milan trio fared
There is little to really report on the French side of things, as Mike Maignan was rested for the entire game and Adrien Rabiot came on as a substitute with just three minutes left of the 90.
However, Diego Moreira started on the left of an attacking trio for Belgium and his performance was bright despite the result and not registering a goal involvement.
The Milan wide man amassed 41 touches, 13 carries (3 progressive), 1 dribble, 1 accurate cross, 17/24 passes completed, 5 clearances, 1 shot blocked, 1 interception, 1 recovery and 1 ground duel won.
Moreira now returns to Milanello with the promise of getting more starts for the Rossoneri, given that his compatriot Alexis Saelemaekers is set to be sidelined for a while with an ankle issue.
After Italy beat Turkey to compound the misery on Vincenzo Montella, it means that Belgium are now third in the four-team group, with France retaining top spot.
