Mika Baur arrives at Lennoxtown as £6.8m Celtic transfer nears completion
The 22-year-old has completed his medical and agreed personal terms, with Celtic now working to finalise a deal reportedly worth around £6.8million.
According to the Daily Record, Baur is at the club’s training base with the major elements of the transfer already completed following a breakthrough in negotiations with Paderborn.
The German side had previously stood firm over their valuation after rejecting an initial Celtic offer worth around £4m, but the Hoops have now moved much closer to their £7m asking price.
Attention will quickly turn to Europe if the deal is completed, with Celtic facing a race to register Baur for their Champions League play-off against LASK.
UEFA’s main List A deadline falls at 11.59pm on Thursday, August 13, ahead of the first leg at Celtic Park next Wednesday.
Celtic will hope to have Baur signed and registered before that cut-off, although missing the deadline would not automatically rule him out of the tie.
UEFA regulations allow clubs to add a maximum of two eligible players until 11.59pm on the night before the first leg, giving Martin O’Neill some additional breathing room.
But with Baur now at Lennoxtown and his £6.8m switch nearing completion, Celtic will be pushing to get their latest summer signing over the line as quickly as possible.
