Mheuka gets Celtic endorsement from the unlikely source

Shim Mheuka has revealed that one of the people he consulted before joining Celtic was the former Rangers loanee, Mikey Moore. Mheuka knows the Spurs winger through the England youth set-up and contacted his international teammate while considering Celtic’s loan proposal.

Speaking to the media ahead of the trip to face St Johnstone, the Chelsea youngster revealed Moore had described Glasgow as “a beautiful city” where he would enjoy himself.

“He’s a good friend of mine so I spoke to him before I came here and he told me it’s a beautiful city and I’d really enjoy it.

“It’s more about what’s best for me than what Mikey has done and what was the best next step in my development.

“But it helped that Mikey is a good friend and did really well.

There was, however, one piece of advice Mheuka wasn’t prepared to accept.

“He told me I was on the wrong side of Glasgow but I told him, no I’m on the right side of the city!”

More importantly, Mheuka appears to have approached his loan intelligently. At 18, he needs competitive football and Celtic can provide it at a level where every match carries expectation. This is probably what encouraged the Chelsea hierarchy to green-light a move for the attacker and his colleague, Landon Emenalo.

Mheuka’s cameo appearances have already offered glimpses of real ability – pace, strength and shooting quality. Hopefully, he can continue to progress and Celtic can benefit from the Chelsea starlet’s presence as they look to compete on all fronts.
