The 20-year-old featured during Celtic’s pre-season but is not part of O’Neill’s immediate first-team plans for the 2026/27 campaign.

According to TCW, Celtic have now sanctioned a loan exit, with Ure set to head south and continue his development in English League Two.

The Scotland Under-21 international, capped six times at that level, also spent last season away from the Hoops after joining Ayr United on loan.

Ure made 19 appearances during his spell at Somerset Park and earned considerable praise from former Ayr boss and Celtic captain Scott Brown.

Brown previously said: “Kyle has been excellent since he walked through the door. He’s a great lad who has a real understanding of the game for one so young.

“His drive and willingness to learn really sets him apart and he’s got a bright future. He’s a top talent.”

Ure remains under contract at Celtic until the summer of 2027 after signing a new two-year deal last year, meaning the move to Crewe is another opportunity to gain regular senior football.

He is unlikely to be the final departure from O’Neill’s squad before the transfer deadline, with Reo Hatate and Michel-Ange Balikwisha also expected to move on.
