Maignan and Moreira start as France beat Belgium with late winner – how they fared

Last night, Belgium hosted France in the Nations League and there were four potential face-offs for AC Milan in Brussels.

Belgium-France is one of the biggest group games of the current Nations League campaign. Alongside Italy in Group A, all three will be expected to qualify, so one team is set to be disappointed. After last night’s results, too, it seems likely that it’ll be either the Azzurri or Belgium.

A late goal from Michael Olise was the only thing that could separate the sides in a pretty even clash as Mike Maignan and Diego Moreira started – Koni De Winter and Adrien Rabiot were unused substitutes.

How Rabiot and Moreira fared

Starting with RMC Sport, the French outlet gave Maignan a 7/10 rating, completing a fine duo of performances from the Milan shot-stopper; he was ‘decisive’ again and made a few nice stops. It’s another clean sheet, too, which helps.

MilanNews, on the other hand, looked at Moreira’s game, calling him Belgium’s ‘star’ once again. Even with his yellow card, he looked like the best offered by the Red Devils, but he wasn’t able to change the game against a very strong opponent.

It’s worth noting that he was switched to the left flank again on Monday night… maybe Mark Van Bommel has seen the same signs as Ruben Amorim.

On Sofascore, the Belgian winger was given a 6.5/10 – largely influenced by his yellow card – but he was outshone by his teammate in the opposite goal, who got a 7.2 rating for his clean sheet and two saves.
